Canaan Community Church is an
assembly of Bible believing
people who are committed to the Lord Jesus Christ and to the work which
He has
given to the church.
What is a
Community Church?
A
community church is a:
1. Non-denominational
church.
This means that the church
serves
the community as a whole without ties to any particular denomination.
2. Come as you
are Church.
Overalls, rubber boots and
hunting camouflage . . . Jeans, dresses & tennis shoes are
acceptable. God
is concerned about the heart and so is the community church. So come
without
concern for dress but expecting God to change your heart.
3. Church with
unique opportunities.
Since there are not
denominational ties, the church has the freedom to reach beyond
traditional
boundaries to reach people that have a wide variety of backgrounds. The
church
also has the freedom to the best of its ability, to follow the
teachings of the
Bible without external controls.
4. Church with
unique challenges.
Some see the word “community” and
miss the word “church.” But even a community church
“is a church.” As a church it
is concerned first and foremost about the things of God &
helping people
into a right relationship with God.
It is easy to confuse the terms
“community church” and
“non-denominational” with
“inter-denominational.” These
terms are not the same. Inter-denominational means embracing all
denominations.
Substantial differences between denominations make it impossible for a
church
to be “interdenominational.” So, at a
community church biblical teaching
is stressed instead of denominational distinctions.

Canaan
Community Church teaches that:
- The
Bible is the Word of God, without error and the basis for faith
and a life
pleasing to God
- God
eternally exists in three persons--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- Jesus
Christ is God who became man, died on the cross, physically rose from
the dead
and ascended to heaven.
- The Holy
Spirit convicts of sin, is active
in saving from sin and indwells all believers.
- Mankind
was created in the image God but is separated from God because of
Adam's sin
unless saved by God.
- Salvation
is the deliverance from sin as a gift of God through personal faith in
the Lord
Jesus Christ.
- Good
works are not the means of salvation, but that good works are the
result of
being saved.
- The
saved should witness by life and by word to proclaim the Gospel to all
mankind.
- God
gives spiritual gifts to all believers as He wills for the building up
of the
whole.
- All
men will be physically resurrected to either eternal life, or
everlasting
punishment
